  • White vinegar
  • Almond oil
  • Toothpaste

Fill a container with water

For the breeding of these little animals, the ideal is to use special aquariums that provide areas in water and dry areas. To keep our turtle healthy, we will have to feed it properly. This advice is also fundamental for the cleaning of the animal itself, in fact, the better the tortoise is fed and the healthier its carapace is maintained. If the animal eats in a healthy and regular way, shell and skin will be much less affected by limestone and water microorganisms. In this regard, it must be guaranteed a good supply of proteins and vitamins. The first thing to do to clean a turtle is to find an appropriate container to use. Fill it with lukewarm water and get yourself a toothbrush. It will then be necessary to take the turtle out of its habitat and take advantage of it to clean it.

Clean with toothbrush and toothpaste

One of the main enemies of turtles is limestone: it settles on the shell and in the interstitial spaces, creating an opaque patina that gives rise to real incrustations. In order not to create sickness in the animal, we will have to clean their carapace on a weekly basis. The simplest and cheapest method is to use a common toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste. The latter contains antibacterial and detergent substances, ideal for our purpose. To replace toothpaste, you can use white vinegar. When carrying out this step, be careful not to cover the animal's nose incautiously, it would risk irritating its skin. So be careful not to get your head wet or touch your skin. Rub the shell with regular movements in each direction, changing the position of the turtle.

Polish the shell

When you have completed the first phase of cleaning the turtle shell, you can continue polishing. A tip is to polish the shell with almond oil, taking care to let it penetrate into the grooves of the same. To do this, use cotton wool soaked in oil and gently caress the shell of the small animal so as to avoid disturbing it. In doing so, in addition to a shinier carapace, you will get a natural protection against limestone. Turtle cleaning also eliminates dead keratin. You can also use a simple rag to remove mud and earth. It is advisable not to rub with vehemence to prevent the carapace from being damaged. This way your turtle will be well cleaned and cared for. So you can put it back into its habitat.
